Perception of cure among leprosy patients post completion of multi-drug therapy

Abstract Background Leprosy is a treatable disease; however, the release from treatment after completion of multidrug therapy (MDT) often does not equal absence health problems. Consequently, sequelae interfere with patient’s perception cure. The objective this study was to analyze factors associated being healed among people treated for leprosy in highly endemic area Brazil. Method A cross-sectional perceived cure post-release period conducted Cáceres state Mato Grosso, included total 390 patients MDT and released 1 January 2000 31 December 2017. dependent variable self-reported leprosy; independent variables clinical, operational socioeconomic variables. Results Out former patients, 304 (77.9%) themselves as cured 86 (22.1%) considered unhealed. Among latter, 49 (57.0%) reported muscle weakness joint pains. Individuals complaints related had 4.6 times higher chance self-report unhealed (OR 4.6; 95% CI 2.5–8.5). Patients physical disabilities (PD) grade 2 at time 3.1 3.1; 1.3–7.4) 8.8 7.7; 3.5–21.9) likelihood self-identify unhealed, respectively. Conclusion successfully quarter disease. are PD phase.
